I figured it was only right that I dedicate a whole blog post to my best friends. They flew from three different places, to Seattle, for my birthday. They are fabulous as hell. We're all so different, yet I couldn't imagine having a better group of girls in my life. So here's to being (according to the workers at Sephora) "Instagram in real life" "Squad goals" and "The group of girls who are going to overthrow Kylie Jenner on Instagram" <3 It's no question that I love taking #ootd pictures. I'm lucky enough to go to a school and to have cool enough friends, that it's just part of the norm to hear someone say," Hey, will you take a picture of my outfit?". So I usually end up doing one of these posts every couple months, so here's some of the outfits that I've been wearing lately! Some, you might have already seen on my other social media, but I like having them all on here as well :) Dress: Urban Outfitters Flannel Shirt: Brandy Melville Hat: Aritzia Shoes: Converse Dress: Nordstrom Jacket: Nasty Gal Shoes: Adidas Shirt: Brandy Melville Chambray Shirt: Aritzia Shoes: Nike Sunglasses: Quay Australia Jacket: Adidas Jeans: Old Navy Shoes: Timberland Hat: Aritzia Jacket: Topshop
Clutch: H&M Shoes: TJ Maxx (HOLLAAAA) I love art. And I bet a year ago, any of you who know me personally, would have looked at me like I was crazy if I said that. But since moving to LA and being around so many creative people, I've come to realize how much I love art and how beautiful it is. This idea was all sparked by a conversation I overheard at a bookstore last night. A man was with his (I'm assuming) girlfriend and they were standing next to me in the art section of th store. They were discussing a book that had some sort of art pieces in it, and the girl was saying how she didn't understand what the artist was thinking and what the painting was about. And what the man said back was what, I think, something that really explained what art is to people. He said," Maybe he wasn't even thinking. Maybe this was just his way of opening up and letting everything inside him flow out onto the canvas." I'm pretty sure I put down the book I was looking at just to comprehend what I just heard. Now you see that sort of thing all over Tumblr, or in quotes on Pinterest. But to hear it in real life, in the art section of a bookstore, on a Saturday night in Los Angeles, was pretty damn cool. The crazy and beautiful thing about art is, is that it's all about perception. Which in some cases, people would say ruins it, and ruins the definition of it. But that's what I think is most beautiful about it. You could look at a blank white wall, with a single red dot in the middle, and come up with a million reasons as to why that red dot is there or what it represents. Or you could just look at it as a white wall with a red dot. Either way, it can be art, depending on who you ask. Now, don't get me wrong, I'll never be the type of person to sit in front of the same painting in a museum, for hours on end, to analyze it and what it symbolizes and means. But I will continue to enjoy other people's perceptions of art and continue to make my own perceptions of works that I see. Whether it's in a museum or graffiti on the street. It's all art, depending on who you ask. The last part of my photoshoot. This is my favorite set for sure. I hope you all liked these photos as much as I do!
Thank you so much again to Savanna for taking these pictures and working on this with me! Something to look forward to, hopefully I'm going to have an apartment tour up soon :) Lost My Mind, Found My Self. Part threeee. Unfortunately I can name at least 3 instances where I was wearing this shirt, and someone has come up to me and said "well I hope you find your mind." REALLY.
Here is part two of my shoot! I'm really diggin this outfit. Very casual and cool. Thanks for checking it out and stay tuned for parts 3 and 4! Make sure to check out Savanna's photography at her Facebook page "Savanna Woodruff Photography"
I decided I wanted some original and legit content for this blog, so I got in touch with my friend Savanna who is a photographer and told her I wanted to do a shoot with her while I was home. There were 4 different outfits incorporated in the shoot, so there will be four blog posts containing each set for each outfit. So, without any more rambling, here is 1 of 4.
So, I'd just like to start off by saying that without a doubt, I am from one of the most beautiful cities in the entire world. I feel like Seattle is so underrated for having such obvious beauty, but in all honesty all people just see is the rain. But come here during the summer, and man, you are going to see this city explode with good weather, happy people, and beautiful, amazing sights. I've heard this a lot since I've been home, but it's true without a doubt, "The bluest skies you will ever see, are in Seattle during the summertime". After exploring and shooting in the city for a while with my friend Corinna, here's some shots she got that I think are pretty dope. Outfit Details:
Romper: Target Flannel: Forever 21 Shoes: Nike Hat: La Notte at Aritzia So shoutout to Corinna for being an amazing photographer, the lighting for doing its thang, and my beautiful city that I love so much. Make sure to check out my soul sista (Corinna)'s blog as well: 68togo.weebly.com It's insane to me that I'm even typing this right now, but, I am officially done with my first year of college. It has been one of the craziest years of my life, but no doubt the best year of my life. I came to LA so worried about making friends, and not being fashionable enough to go to fashion school, and being away from home. But now, I barely want to leave, even if it's just for three weeks. My friends here have become my family, and I could not be more grateful for them. I truly feel as if I have found myself here. I have defined my style, I have chosen what I want to believe in, and believed in it, and I have a new found confidence in myself that I have never had before. Los Angeles has my heart, and I know this is exactly where I'm supposed to be. With that being said, this year has been a year full of many firsts. So to make this a substantial post, I am going to include some pictures of some "firsts" from my first year of college. FIRST day of college at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising FIRST roommates <3 FIRST sunset as a California resident FIRST tattoo FIRST time in San Francisco FIRST apartment FIRST time finding a lifelong family in a badass group of friends <3 FIRST time falling in love with the City of Angels
So recently this two weekends ago I made a quick trip up to San Francisco to visit my former roommate and one of the bests, Tay. It was my first time there so she showed me around and if you've been there, you know that it looks almost IDENTICAL to Seattle. So needless to say I'm a little homesick now. Because me and Tay are both makeup lovers and spend way too much on it and buy way too much of it, we went to Sephora every single day I was there. So without going in to my obvious shopping problem, I'm going to tell you guys about all the new makeup goods I bought and what I think of them so far! This first product is not from Sephora, but it something I can't leave out of this blog post that is also a new product that I bought this weekend. Ever since moving to California, my skin has become insanely dry. I think the change of climate and the dry weather has just killed it and I haven't been able to find a moisturizer that has consistently fixed the problem since. When I went to the MAC counter, I was just testing a bunch of different products on my hand when I came across this one. It instantly made my whole hand so much softer and moisturized so I was sold. After one night of using it, I woke up the next morning and my face was so much more soft and moisturized, it was crazy. A little bit goes a long way with this product, so if you're looking for a good moisturizer, this is definitely the one you need in your life ASAP. I'm pretty excited about this product. It's a setting powder by Makeup Forever and it's HD, which means that it has no flashback whatsoever when using flash in photos. It is a setting powder made specifically for photo taking. Seriously?! So great. Love it. I have been hearing so many good things about these primers so I decided to try one of them out. I got the green one, which is redness correcting. The first day I used it by itself under my foundation and it didn't do anything. If anything I thought it made my skin MORE red. So I decided to mix it with previous face primer, the Maybelline Baby Skin, and use a combination of both. That worked a lot better, so if it doesn't give you the results you're expecting or that you want the first time you use it, don't give up. Try mixing it with a moisturizer or another primer and that should help. Kat Von D is known best for her tattoos and her thriving tattoo shops. The past couple years though, she has been making a name for herself in the makeup world. She has come out with a line of foundations, eyeshadows, mascaras, and everything else you could think of. This particular product is an eyeshadow palette, but what makes it unique, is that every single shadow is matte. I'm not one to like a lot of sparkle and shimmer, so I am really excited about this palette and the endless opportunity for different looks it brings. This eyeliner has been out for a while now, but every time I went to Sephora to go get it, it was sold out. So when I FINALLY got it in SF, I was so excited. It is definitely worth the hype and it makes your winged liner look perfect every morning. I don't use it everyday just because it takes a little longer to put on then my liquid liner because of the formula, but it's worth the extra time. The brush and the formula combined, make it so easy to achieve a perfectly black winged liner. I saw this online on the NARS website, and because it is limited edition, I didn't think it would be sold in stores. To my surprise and extreme excitement, I found it when I went to Sephora and bought it. Perfect neutral shade blush for summer, with just a touch of shimmer for a nice, subtle glow. And who can resist limited edition packaging? This brush is called the "Smoothing Face" brush by Bare Minerals and it lives up to its name, without a doubt. I have been using this to blend my foundation and concealer, and also my cream contour. It is honestly one of the best face brushes I have ever used to do my makeup. Alright, well those are the new products that I purchased and have been using non stop! If you try any of them out, let me know how you like them! I'll probably be making a video about my trip and posting that, so look out for that on my youtube channel. I have some exciting things coming up that I can't wait to discuss with you guys! peace.
